My name is Angelina Spera. I am a thirt-year student in the economics technician program at ŠC Sežana.
On 20th November I was involved in FOODCARE project thanks to the expert, Karin Callipo, that was invited from my school. Among the 16 topics, I read more about Vegetarianism because I love animals and I wanted to know more about this dietary preference.
I discovered that Vegetarianism is more than a dietary preference—it is a lifestyle that, not only avoids eating animals, but also promotes health, environmental protection, and ethical living. As awareness about sustainability grows, more people are turning to plant-based choices as a way to align their daily habits with their values.
I knew that vegetarianism focuses on eating plant-based foods while avoiding meat, fish, and poultry, but not that there are several types of vegetarian diets, such as lacto-ovo vegetarianism, which includes dairy products and eggs. People choose this lifestyle for many reasons: improving their health, reducing environmental harm, supporting ethical treatment of animals, or following religious beliefs.
A well-balanced vegetarian diet is rich in vitamins, minerals, fiber, and antioxidants. When planned correctly, it provides all the essential nutrients the body needs to function well.
Why Is It Important?
Choosing a vegetarian lifestyle has a powerful positive impact on the planet. Plant-based diets help reduce greenhouse gas emissions, protect natural ecosystems, save water, and use less land. By eating fewer animal products, individuals contribute to preserving biodiversity and slowing climate change. Vegetarianism also inspires others to make sustainable choices, creating a ripple effect for the environment.
The most important part of the DIDACTIC MATERIAL on Vegetarianism was the section related to How Can I Contribute?
Now, I know that I can adopt vegetarian habits at their own pace. Some meaningful steps include:
- Eating more plant-based meals
- Choosing local and seasonal produce
- Reducing food waste
- Avoiding unnecessary packaging
- Supporting sustainable and organic farming
- Sharing knowledge with others
- Reducing the use of animal-derived products
Even small lifestyle changes can make a significant difference when practiced consistently.
Thank you FOODCARE project for these precious news I got because of you!
